I'm Mat,

How I got started in design
After following the well trodden path of College > Uni > Job, I quickly realised I wasn't quite ready for the 'Job' part of the equation. So for around 10 years I freelanced as a Graphic Designer, working for all kinds of businesses from local SME's to large organisations all across the country.
Then a short 2 week contract role at a small Manchester based gaming company somehow turned into 5 years, ending with me growing a team of 9 amazing designers as part of a large PLC responsible for the creative output of over 150 brands.
What I've been working on since
As much as I LOVED managing I realised I was falling behind on the latest design trends and the massive move towards a merging of the design and tech industries.
So the past 4 years I have spent working within dev teams helping to create digital products whilst still drawing on the skills I learnt about branding and visual design from my many years of pushing pixels around a screen.
My life outside of the 9-5
In tandem with my early career in design, I spent about 10 years making and playing dance records, a passion that I still hold dear to my heart.
Now as a dad of 3 young boys my dancing days aren't quite fully behind me, but you can now normally find me ferrying them around or up a ladder with a paint brush in hand.
